The speed you purchase from your provider\u2014300Mbps, 600Mbps or 1Gbps\u2014is measured in megabits per second.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>300Mbps:<\/strong> this is the connection speed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>37.5MB\/s:<\/strong> this is the actual file transfer rate. For example, downloading a large game or a 5GB software update with a 300Mbps connection would take approximately two minutes and 13 seconds. This is already considered fast for typical household use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although a download speed of 300Mbps is high, the factor that really ensures this speed performs well today <strong>is having a symmetrical connection<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Symmetrical fibre means that the upload speed is identical to the download speed<\/strong>. Most 300Mbps fibre plans in Spain are now symmetrical, providing 300Mbps download and 300Mbps upload speeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Historically, <strong>most home Internet usage was asymmetrical<\/strong> because it focused primarily on downloading content, such as loading websites and streaming. However, modern online activities increasingly depend on upload speed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Remote working and video calls:<\/strong> image quality and video-call stability depend directly on upload speed. A slow upload speed can cause pixelation, interruptions and lag.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cloud backups:<\/strong> saving photos, videos or work documents to platforms such as Google Drive or Dropbox requires a good upload speed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Gaming:<\/strong> although playing online does not require much upload bandwidth, speed is important for sending data in real time and, above all, avoiding latency or ping spikes that can ruin the experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A symmetrical 300Mbps connection provides enough upload speed to <strong>eliminate the risk of an upload bottleneck<\/strong>. Most services, including <strong>Disney+, Netflix and HBO Max, recommend speeds of between 15Mbps and 25Mbps<\/strong> to maintain consistent 4K quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For streaming, <strong>300Mbps is enough for a typical household with moderate use<\/strong>. However, if you plan to have several devices streaming 4K content at the same time, this speed may fall a little short.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In these high-demand cases, <strong>we recommend choosing 600Mbps or even 1Gbps<\/strong> to ensure an experience without interruptions or drops in quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, <strong>if you use multiple devices at the same time<\/strong>, including phones, Smart TVs, games consoles and computers, <strong>300Mbps is likely to be insufficient<\/strong> in very intensive usage scenarios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is why, if you use the Internet heavily and want better performance, we recommend upgrading to 600Mbps. The download requirement is similar or slightly higher, ranging from 1.5 to 8Mbps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a high-demand scenario where two adults are working remotely and making video calls simultaneously, <strong>their combined upload usage would be approximately 16Mbps (8Mbps \u00d7 2)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If a child is also streaming Netflix in 4K, using 25Mbps of download bandwidth, the household\u2019s total demand would reach approximately 41Mbps. This represents just <strong>14% of a 300Mbps connection\u2019s capacity<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In practice, however, <strong>home Internet usage is much more variable<\/strong>: devices connected in the background, usage spikes, online gaming, downloads, automatic updates or a less-than-perfect signal can all affect performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That is why, to ensure a smooth and stable experience day to day, <strong>we recommend 600Mbps or more<\/strong>, especially in households where several people are connected at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Online_gaming_and_downloading_files\"><\/span>Online gaming and downloading files<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For gamers, the highest priority is not maximum speed in Mbps but <strong>latency, measured as ping<\/strong>, which is the connection\u2019s response time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regardless of whether you have 300Mbps, 600Mbps or 1Gbps, fibre-optic Internet provides low and highly stable ping, ideally between <strong>5 and 15ms<\/strong>. This helps prevent the lag that can ruin competitive gaming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although gaming itself uses very little bandwidth, competitive gamers looking for higher speeds are advised to have <strong>600Mbps or more to absorb traffic spikes and ensure zero interruptions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, if several people in the household perform bandwidth-intensive activities at the same time, or if the gamer uses a latest-generation console or streams their gameplay professionally on Twitch, the bandwidth demand, particularly simultaneous upload usage, also makes <strong>600Mbps or more<\/strong> the recommended option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this context, <strong>we recommend choosing 600Mbps fibre to ensure a stable connection<\/strong> during gaming sessions in a multi-person household, or upgrading directly to 1Gbps fibre to play without interruptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Upgrading to 600Mbps is effectively <strong>an investment in a substantial safety buffer that prevents another household member\u2019s simultaneous download or stream from affecting gaming latency<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The area where you will notice the difference between connection speeds most clearly <strong>is downloading files<\/strong>, including game updates, digital content and backups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With a 300Mbps download speed, you could theoretically download around 37 megabytes per second. Under ideal conditions, this would allow you to download a 50GB video game in approximately <strong>20 minutes<\/strong>.
